QNTR Trend Indicator

A trend-following strategy that only trades with confirmed trend regimes, enters on pullbacks to moving averages, and requires multi-factor confirmation before firing.

Designed to reduce chop-driven false signals while staying flexible enough to capture high-quality continuation setups across intraday and swing timeframes.

Core Logic

Trade only when trend, alignment, pullback, confirmation, and momentum all agree.

Risk Controls

ATR stops and targets, cooldowns, session filters, and optional end-of-day flattening.

Best Fit

SPY, SPX, QQQ, index futures, liquid equities, and crypto with session settings adjusted.

What It Does

The QNTR Trend Indicator is built to identify continuation trades in trending markets through a five-layer filter stack.

  • Regime detection determines whether the market is in a bull or bear environment based on anchor moving-average slope.
  • Multi-SMA alignment requires the 20, 50, and 100 SMAs to be properly stacked against the 200 SMA.
  • Pullback entry logic waits for price to tag a selected moving average before considering an entry.
  • Confirmation trigger requires a breakout, engulfing candle, or SMA reclaim before the signal can fire.
  • ADX trend-strength filtering blocks signals when directional momentum is weak.

Once in a trade, the strategy manages risk automatically with ATR-based stops and targets, cooldown logic, session controls, and optional end-of-day flattening.

How It Works

1. Regime Detection

  • Uses five simple moving averages: 8, 20, 50, 100, and 200.
  • Lets you choose an anchor SMA, with 50 as the default.
  • Measures anchor slope over an adjustable lookback, with 3 bars as the default.
  • Positive slope indicates a bull regime, while negative slope indicates a bear regime.
  • Optional chart background tint keeps the active regime visible at a glance.

2. Anti-Chop Trend Filter

Signals only fire when the moving averages are cleanly stacked.

  • Longs: 20, 50, and 100 SMAs above the 200 SMA, with 50 > 100 > 200.
  • Shorts: 20, 50, and 100 SMAs below the 200 SMA, with 50 < 100 < 200.
  • Each alignment filter can be enabled or disabled independently.

3. Pullback Entry Zones

  • Pullbacks can target any combination of the 8, 20, 50, and 100 SMAs.
  • A tag is registered when price enters an adjustable proximity band.
  • The band can be defined in ATR multiples or as a percent of price.
  • A configurable lookahead window allows confirmation to arrive several bars after the tag.

4. Confirmation Trigger

  • Close beyond prior high or low.
  • Bullish or bearish engulfing candle.
  • Close back above or below the tagged SMA.
  • Any of the above, for broader signal capture.

An optional body-direction filter requires the confirmation candle to close in the direction of the trend.

5. ADX Trend-Strength Filter

  • Configurable ADX length, DI smoothing, and minimum threshold, with 20 as the default threshold.
  • Optional ADX-rising requirement to confirm strengthening momentum.
  • Optional +DI and -DI directional confirmation.
  • Optional ADX sub-pane for live visualization.

6. Cooldown System

  • Supports bar-based or minute-based cooldowns between signals.
  • Can run per side or across both sides.
  • Can optionally reset on regime flips to avoid missing the first entry in a fresh trend.

7. Session Filter

  • Trades and alerts only fire inside the selected session window.
  • Supports Mon-Fri schedules or 24/7 assets such as crypto.
  • Optional out-of-session background highlighting.

8. End-of-Day Flatten

  • Optional setting to close open positions at session end.
  • Reduces overnight and gap risk.

9. Trade Execution

  • Auto-executes long and short trades, with each side independently controllable.
  • Uses ATR-based stop-loss and take-profit logic, with defaults of 1.5x and 3.0x ATR.
  • Can auto-flatten if the trend regime is lost during the trade.
  • Includes two alertcondition hooks for Long and Short automation.

Recommended Use

  • Timeframes: 2m, 5m, 15m, 1H, 4H, and Daily.
  • Assets: SPY, SPX, QQQ, ES, NQ, CL, liquid equities, and crypto.
  • Session tuning: Useful for skipping unstable open and close windows, such as 09:45 to 15:45.
  • Backtesting: Every filter is toggleable, making it easier to isolate which components create edge.

Key Differentiators

  • Multi-factor confirmation: this is not a simple moving-average cross system.
  • Configurable architecture: thresholds, filters, and confirmation logic can all be tuned.
  • Integrated risk management: stops, targets, cooldowns, session limits, and flattening are built in.
  • Regime-aware exits: trades can close when the trend structure breaks, even before the stop or target is reached.

Signals & Alerts

  • Green L triangle below bar for long entries.
  • Red S triangle above bar for short entries.
  • Purple down-arrows for exits, including regime loss, EOD flatten, and ATR target or stop fills.
  • Alert conditions: Long Signal and Short Signal for TradingView or webhook automation.
