How the Put/Call Ratio Tracker works
The put/call ratio compares the daily option volume of puts (bets that a stock
will fall) against calls (bets that it will rise). Tracked over time, it becomes
one of the cleanest read-outs of crowd sentiment in the options market. This
dashboard collects a daily snapshot for each symbol and overlays a 21-day moving
average so you can see where today's reading sits relative to the recent trend.
The ratio is most useful as a contrarian sentiment indicator.
Persistently low average ratios mean traders are heavily skewed toward
calls โ a sign of complacency or greed, and often a market that has run ahead of
itself. Persistently high average ratios mean traders are loading up on
puts โ a sign of fear, capitulation, or hedging, which historically has marked
attractive entry points rather than the moment to sell. Extremes in either
direction tend to mean-revert.
“Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.”
โ Warren Buffett
